Great post. When I get frustrated with the system, what keeps me going is the hope that I can be a “Mrs. Douglas” for at least one of my students. Thanks for sharing what we don’t always get to hear-the impact we have on our students lives.

If somebody read my write up of this visit to the broadcast, they would not think we were in the same place. I was more focused on the equipment, and the tasks the students were doing. You captured the true essence of what the broadcast is all about. It is a unique experience,an education in opportunities, raising the bar on expectations.

Wow…I am finishing up my final thoughts for my paper(student empowerment as it relates to technology), and I decided to take a break and read some blogs. Lo and behold I come across your entry …A terrific example of students collaboration, empowerment and leadership. It seems that administrators differ in their handling of technology just as much as classroom teachers differ. Some really embrace technology, others shy away. The goal of the NETS project spells out the need for support, policies and funding but the project doesn’t tell us how to make it all work in the real world. I think that unless the parents/community are calling out for more access to, and meaningful use of, technology, there will always be other issues (such as building safety, adequate parking or new athletic fields) that grab all of the attention and funding.

It’s easy to get sucked in — clicking from site to site — and before you know it, hours have gone by. I spent a lot more time adding links to my blogroll than I had planned! Already I am finding it hard to keep up with my email and what comes through my RSS reader and some of the sites I discovered over the weekend. It’s overwhelming.

I went to sleep late on that night, hoping that I would not have to wake up on Monday. Unfortunately, like the weathermen, I made too many assumptions before even seeing the actual snow! I woke up twice in the middle of the night hoping for a phone call from the school snow chain. Each time I woke up (3:45AM and 4:45AM), I looked out the window for snow, but did not see any! How UPSETTING!! We didn’t even get a two hour delay in Port Chester

Great post! Fear is an obstacle to adoption of technology in some of our classrooms; and as you said, even if folks aren’t afraid; they generally don’t like change.
